Here’s a fully working, all original Berzerk video arcade game machine. The game plays correctly, as do all the sounds – even the speech. All switches, buttons and lights work as well – even the coin door lights! An off-board rechargeable battery has been installed to keep the credits and settings when the game has turned off. The original battery, as is typically the case, leaked on the board, causing damage to the main ZPU board and the BSC boards of the set. Both of these boards, as well as their associated ribbon cables, were given the vinegar bath to stop any rot as an initial step. Then, corrosion was cleaned off both boards and any components that needed replacing were removed and new components installed. A myriad of jumper wires were also installed in order to get everything working again. The cabinet is in very good shape, with some flaking on one side and no water damage. The player-facing black sections were all repainted and look perfect. The monitor is original and has been recapped - it looks *perfect* with only very, very mild Berzerk burn. Neckboard cracked but jumpered/repaired. The bezel and marquee do have some minor flaking and the fantastic glass bezel was coated with Triple Thick to prevent any more degradation. A new instruction card was also installed. The control panel has the original Wico 8 way leaf stick and original buttons installed. The metal panel is clean and does have some mild artwork scratching and flaking. The underlying wood of the panel has some swelling but it’s still solid and the overall panel looks good and still sits properly in the cab. The coin door is in good shape, save for some surface rust on the silver portion, with one side still being able to accept quarters if you wish (no coin box to catch them, though) as one coin mech is still there. The other side has no coin mech, so in order to keep from having to open the coin door to get credits, I wired up the second coin acceptor to one of the fire buttons. So, whenever the game is played, credits will automatically be added as a result of game play. Since Berzerk gives no visual or audio indicator when a coin is added, this stealth mode works perfectly to keep the game set to essentially free play.
